Conservation Commission
The Essex Conservation Commission manages three Town-owned preserves which are open to the public during daylight hours. Bushy Hill Preserve, located in Ivoryton and Canfield-Meadow Woods and Viney Hill Brook Park, located in Essex, provide a wide variety of terrain and habitat with the purpose of protecting native plants and wildlife. The inventory of the Conservation Easements given to the Town of Essex and to the Essex Land Trust are updated annually and are available at the Town Clerk’s office. Working with the Essex Land Trust and other land use commissions, the Conservation Commission makes recommendations on the status of conservation and development.
Due to beaver activity and rain, sections of Broadwalk, the central trail in Viney Hill Brook Preserve, may be flooded and/or impassable.
Please see our webpage links for printable maps and details of each preserve: Bushy Hill, Viney Hill Brook Park, Canfield-Meadow Woods.
The Essex Conservation Commission meets the second Thursday of each month at the Essex Town Hall.
