Dog License

All dogs over the age of six months and living in Essex must be vaccinated for rabies and licensed by the Town Clerk.The license is good from July 1 through June 30 and must be renewed during the month of June. Each month after that there is a dollar ($1.00) a month penalty added on to the original fee. Please refer to Connecticut General Statute Sec. 22-338 for more information.

Dog Licenses Fees:

• $8/year, neutered or spayed
• $19/year, non-neutered or non-spayed
• $.50 Replacement Tag

To obtain a new dog license:

1. Complete a dog license application . 

2.  Bring the completed application with copy of rabies vaccination certificate, copy of spay/neuter certificate (if applicable) and check or money order payable to Essex Town Clerk. 

To renew a dog license:

Dog license renewal letters will be mailed out in May. 

Please mail your dog license renewal form, a current copy of rabies vaccination certificate, payment and a self addressed stamped envelope to Essex Town Clerk.  

You can also renew a dog license in person at the Essex Town Clerk's office during regular business hours. Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Note: If your dog license is overdue or if your pet has not been registered, please call the office with the instructions on how to proceed.
