Registrars of Voters

Presidential Primaries

The Democratic and Republican Presidential Primaries have been postponed until August 11, 2020. Party rules specify you must be registered to vote with the party holding the primary that you would like to vote in.

Unaffiliated voters, the state’s largest block of voters, have until August 6, 2020, to register with a party online, by mail, or at the Department of Motor Vehicles if they want to participate in the PPP. They have until August 10, 2020, to register in person.

If you are a registered Democrat or Republican you are no longer eligible to switch parties.

Changes to your voter registration can be made online at https://voterregistration.ct.gov/OLVR/welcome.do. Voters can also change their registration in person in the Registrar of Voters office or with the Town Clerk in the Essex Town Hall by appointment only.

For Absentee Ballot information, please call the Town Clerk's Office at 860-767-4340 x 129 or click this link to download the absentee ballot application form.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call the office at 860-767-4340 x 142.

Office Hours are by appointment only.
