Ad Hoc Committee - Thatchbed Island

The Ad Hoc Thatchbed Island Committee is charged with finding ways to preserve Thatchbed Island and restore part of the area lost through erosion over the past several years using environmentally friendly methods. The Committee has done extensive research and has taken its lead from the EPA/USACE Manual “Beneficial Uses of Dredge Material”. Using dredge material for restoration and preservation provides a better way of “disposing” of the material while saving considerable funding for both private dredgers and the Town. For in depth information see “Comprehensive Study on Essex Harbor and Thatchbed Island”. We will post plans and steps toward our goal as we progress.
