How do I get an application for a pistol permit?

Pistol permit applications can be obtained during regular business hours from the
Selectman’s Office within the Town Hall.  Follow the instructions on completing the
application and return it to the Essex Police Department/Essex Resident Trooper’s Office
with the following:  

  • Certificate of completion of a gun safety course. 
  • Connecticut operator’s license.
  • Certified certificate of birth.
  • Three separate certified bank checks or money orders in the amounts designated on the application.

Upon completion and delivery of the above application and documents to the Essex
Police Department you will be fingerprinted to complete the application.  Your
application will then be forward to the State Police for processing.
