Sustainable Essex Committee

Sustainable Essex is the new name for the Essex Citizens for Clean Energy committee which now has an expanded mission. On May 3, 2018, the Board of Selectman voted unanimously to join a statewide initiative called Sustainable CT that promotes a broad menu of sustainability practices which aim to ensure the health and well-being of current and future residents while respecting the finite capacity of the natural environment.

Since 2006, Essex Citizens for Clean Energy (ECCE),  a group of residents  concerned about climate change, have worked to ensure a  clean, sustainable and cost-effective energy future for Essex. Through a variety of initiatives, the group has promoted solar energy, pressed for energy conservation, obtained grant money, and offered energy-efficient LED light bulbs to residents in exchange for their incandescent bulbs. The group also benchmarked the energy performance of municipal buildings in Town using the EPA's online Energy Star Portfolio Manager program, which will make it easy to measure annual performance over time.

The Sustainable Essex Committee will focus on strategies to balance environmental protection, economic development, and social objectives to meet the needs of today without compromising the quality of life for future generations.

Meetings are held ad hoc. Please contact the Sustainable Essex Committee at sustsxct@gmail.com for the meeting link.
